Question Rear Bumper Trim Removal?

Hi there chaps - Yes, it's just another day in paradise.........

Anyway, here's hoping you're all well anyway.....

Have a quick question for the knowledgeable here; And that is, is there any way, or special tool required to remove the Plastic Chrome Strip, (centre section) on the Rear Bumper of a 2001 Rover 75 please. I am really hoping that none of you say "Take the Bumper off"........

I have a new one, thanks to ' tinpin ', thanks Terry, (he has some nice stuff by the way)... and I see it is clipped on, so putting the new one on seems a doddle, it's getting the old scratched one off that I feel is the issue.....

Thanks, and you'll have a nice day ya hear..... Bill.

really need to take bumper off bill. as you got a new strip maybe you can just pull the old one off breaking the clips and fit the new one without having to take bumper off ,

Chrissyboy is correct - bumper removal is the best way. The strip is held by 'push-in' tongues which go through slots in the bumper. A tab in the tongue then springs open to hold the strip in place.

If you try to remove one from the front you will inevitably end up with visible marks on the bumper. So take the bumper off, look at the rear of the trim. You should be able to press the sprung tab down and push the tongue back through the bumper. Do it one at a time, and they may be stiff and crusted with gunge, so it may help to clean around each one first.

Hi Chris, I did think of that but the old one has only very slight damage that you can only see close-up. Looks like at some stage it was bent somehow so it's left a crease running from top to bottom..... Other than that there is nothing wrong with it. Hence I want to keep it.

Thank, Bill.

something like this bill its better to do it right than cut corners and do some damage . as jezzer says you may damage the bumpers paint and end up with a more damage finish than you started with ....

Default Chrome Strip

Have same problem Bill. Scratched chrome off on corner thro to plastic. Bought new strip but damned if I want to take bumper off so have left it. It is not very noticeable anyway.
If you do remove your bumper pse let me know how difficult it was etc.

Hi Crofts, it isn't that difficult apparently.

You have to remove the 5 or 6 funny screw things under where the boot lid opens on the top of the Bumper. There are 2 bolts behind the wheel on the bottom of the wheel-arches and there are 2 bolts under the Bumper near the centre of it, apparently all plastic! And the sides just pull out at the top, and that's it!
Not so bad I suppose if you don't have Reverse Sensors, but I do which I suppose can make it a little more difficult, which make me think I'll leave it for now in case I break something!

Ce la vie.

If you are taking the chrome off then i would advise you to get some new clips from rimmers. all of mine were badly rusted and no longer fit for purpose
