Roof Mounted Cycle Carriers
Thoughts and opinions please?
My youngest has outgrown her old bike which was small enough to fit in the boot so I have had to buy a fourth cycle carrier (Thule 591 - brilliant product). My concern however is the prospect of having four bikes (in particuklar, the weight) on the roof of the car - anyone have any thoughts / opinions either for or against? Maximum load of the roof carrier is 100kg - anybody any ideas what the average weight of a bike is these days? I am struggling to find out the weight of my own bike (no scales!) - it's a Claud Butler Cape Wrath D27 (Brilliant bike by the way!). P.S. Don't worry the cycle carriers are not for the ZT - it's for the Saab! |

Depending on the make and model, each bike would be between 12 - 15 kilos, so 4-up you should be ok, but remember thet your centre of gravity has shifted upwards quite a bit !

Thanks for the info on the weight of the bike - really useful cheers! Assuming all 4 bikes weigh about the same (the kids bikes feel a bit heavier!) - I should be well within the limits of the maximum tolerance of the bars. Many thanks! |

I can also recommend http://www.fordparts.co.uk - they were even cheaper again than the above plus I made my order on the Monday morning and by Tuesday evening I had it fitted on the car - top class service! |
