Default Can it do any harm.

If l run my car with a faulty 2/4 duty solenoid will it damage the gearbox?? I have the new part but am waiting for a gasket for the front cover. But l may need to do a round trip of about 200 miles before l can get it sorted. I was thinking of using the motorways as much as possible, that way l should be able to stay in top without too much gear changing. Or l am taking too much of a risk of permanent damage. Cheers. Ray

Shouldnt do any harm, why not just use a smear of gasket sealer rather than a new gasket, I’ve done this a few times with no ill effects.

Red silicon sealer is what I use on my sump plug, and never had a leak. Another thing is it is not a permanent fix . It is easy to remove.

Thanks guys. I have a gasket on its way from JP Transmissions. Of Bristol, £5 Inc p&p. The main thing l was concerned about was using the car with the dodgy solenoid. Hopefully should have it fixed soon, weather permitting.
