20 mph speed cameras.
Oh heck! 1100 motorist in a Plymouth 20 mph zone caught speeding in the first 24 hrs of the test phase being switched on & caught 20000 speeders before even being switched on https://www.visordown.com/news/gener...aught-1100-day
They need them on the road outside my house, It's a 20 mph road but by the time they pass my house they're doing more than double the speed. I was reading the other day that Cornwall council has reduced the speed limit on 700 30 mph roads to 20 mph. https://www.transport-network.co.uk/...00-roads/17705

If they've caught that many motorists in that period of time and there hasn't been any serious accidents, then the cameras are nothing more than an income generator for the LA/Police.

I am led to believe that nobody has ever been prosecuted under the 20mph limit rules, as the current detectors cannot be sufficiently accurate at such a low speed. The introduction of new equipment would be very costly.

Over half a million quid in fines generated since the start of the year by Derby City council for driver incursions into bus lanes.

I have another one, all cars to be fitted with GPS enabled black boxes which could control the speed of the vehicle within the designated speed limits. Or have safety cameras every 100 yards nickin folks at 1mph over. Or have a system where rather than points awarded speeders are hung up in one of those medieval cage things as a warning to others. Sorted. Sorry that was three ideas, all of which are tongue in cheek. |

Who, or what, controls the imposition of selective arbitrary speed limits on the roads? Bees in bonnets are becoming more and more self important.
I suspect local gobby gauleiters have not got very much to do. If by any chance serious accidents or incident rates are shown to be a concern at a particular site, then there might be good reason for amendment. If so, it should be published with local involvement as an essential precursor to give it weight and justification. This, with a majority of residents voting, should be required. That's democracy. I once lived in a village where a local branch of a world wide charity had a 'Lodge'. In this complainers' coven a gathering of two people (on 'the committee') were a forum. What price democracy eh. As it happens, not a million miles from you Flying Banana!

The main road opposite the cottages is supposed to be 40mph but the local Halford's self adhesive accessory brigade treat it like a racetrack.
