The coolant fan first trips in when the 'water' temperature reaches around 100 degrees Centigrade. The fan speed depends how hot the 'water' gets. Above 110 degrees or so, the fast speed will operate. Under typical running conditions, the fan may not operate at all, so what is defined as 'fully hot' depends on the circumstances. You can check your actual coolant temperature by running the diagnostic test described elsewhere.
The engine oil temperature isn't measured directly. I guess 200 Centigrade will occur in certain places e.g valve stem lube. The sump oil temperature will be lower, but I'd guess it's always well above the coolant temperature. The diesel engine runs cooler than the petrols. TC |

It gets even hotter internally. Driven normally, the exhaust valve heads will be glowing a cherry red colour. The inlet valves run slightly cooler, being in contact with the incoming fuel vapour and cold air.
Driven briskly, your exhaust manifold will glow in the dark, as will your front discs if you tend to drive rally style! TC |
