To much cloud made the moon so dark I could not get the correct exposure hand holding.

I'll upload my effort tomorrow.....Nowt special though!

To be honest as its nearly a full moon it loses some of the shadow detail on the craters....Will probably be better in a few days time

I prefer using the Canon super zoom bridge camera for shots of the moons surface in half or crescent moon phase, mainly because the craters throw off more interesting shadows, improving clarity. I am not in favour of cropping in, as details and sharpness can be lost.

I watched it rise when it was a lovely Orange, laying in bed watching it but just could not push myself to get dressed go into front bedroom and seek out which backpack my camera and lens were in. I was hurting bad from doing to much (recent home move) I just had to lay there thinking I bet the guys (members here) are out tonight with their cameras.

Jeff and Paul you've inspired me.

I don't own a DSLR anymore, don't even have a bridge just a Sony compact so decided it's be better for me to treat it as a subject for video.

I only have a basic Sony Handycam but it's possible, via a rather unfriendly UI and a tiny 2.7 inch screen, to run in manual mode.

Not the best of results after 11 attempts, definitely room for improvement

Good morning Jim, thank you for sharing

I like it as your film is innovative and it makes a pleasant change from seeing the moon in still life portrayal. You could start a new trend

We both have similar Sony handicams. I might try out a zoom lens I have from a set of Raynox magnifying lenses doubling the power to x126. It should be interesting to see if it comes out okay or not. Sorry I don't have any advice at this time.

Your photo has a feeling of mystery to it. The night sky over London that night was heavily clouded and I could not take any moon shots

Many thanks for your comments.

For my footage I didn't use the full x55 zoom, I'd estimate that it was set to somewhere between x25-30, so I'm not sure what results you'd get taking it further. I found that the greater the zoom the more the image degraded, it has to be noted that the CX320E's sensor is quite small at 3.1mm and at 1080p is only resolving 2.29 mp, hence the poor quality magnified image. I'd love to try one of these for it's large sensor and 14.2 mp resolution but that's not going to happen!

I was all set up to have another attempt last night but as the moon rose the cloud rolled in.
