Auto box "surprise"
Ok so 1st of all I couldn't find a topic where I can post something and an user will reply without making a new topic around here. Second of all my gearbox is fine ( both of them ) , another thing made me wonder. When I bought my 75, I was looking on google on common/possible problems with the autobox, and found some other 3-4 brands which use the same gearbox, funny all of them had tiptronic option, except the 75. I thought at the time that the tiptronic option is not something you achieve it via reley switches or electrical mods, it needs to be manufactured by the producer of the gearbox; wondering a couple of days why the 75 didn't had tiptronic UNTIL a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine with an manual R75 wanted to convert it to automatic r75, job done in ~10 days, car is working like a factory automatic but in the last day of swaping I went by the garage and see something that made me See the picture. What the hell?

Can you enlarge it? it is a bit too small to see clearly. I haven't seen underneath the trim on an auto so I am not if that is correct or not
Interesting about your friend having the auto fitted - I take it that extra wiring must have been added for the auto box and it's ECU.

I think the OP is pointing out the cut out in the right hand side of the rubber thing around the gear selector, indicating it should have had tiptronic transmission.
In other cars with tip tropic, you can throw the stick over to the right to put it into manual. Very interesting. I had never given that cut out a second though. I wonder if MG/R had plans to implement it ? Unless it is just the same shroud as the freelanders use, or even E46 BMW's, as they both have tiptronic.

@bolin - he had an identical automatic car for spare which was rhd and crashed on the right side
Exactly as fezzy said , I was pointing out that gap for +/- in tiptronic mode, I'll ask a freelander owner to unmout the trim to see if that shroud is the same part like ours or not; for sure not bmw e46, you need to pull the lever to the left for tiptronic. I feel sorry that I didn't try to place the lever in that section over there :-? Last edited by DEVYL; 10th June 2014 at 08:45.. |

Great! In the meantime I will remove the trim off my 75, and see if the mechanical part works ( meaning the lever beeing able to move to the right ) , 'cause if that works, rest of it its electrical stuff, and I will buy a 2.5 v6 auto freelender and chop shop the hell out of it.

It depends of what I need to add this option. I know for sure that the gearbox is 100% tiptronic able, a car with same engine has it available, so its just a matter of electronics I think :-?. Not easy anyway but something I will look after over this summer. One thing for sure, impossible ain't and there are some "signs" indicating it could be done. It will be the craziest thing ever, fact!
