The diesel ECU is described as a relay.....
the V6 has a relay and ecu....the diesel just has the relay....

I'd guess it is taking the vehicle speed information on the CAN bus and signalling the ECM to maintain the desired speed. How are you going to do this without it? Last edited by Mike Noc; 8th March 2014 at 07:54.. |

I've been down this road, and I think that a diesel loom DIY is possible (and in fact, I believe that it has even been done before by Nick at Austin Garages?)
My research on this before I too discovered that my car did not have the cruise loom fitted (argh!) Wiring things up ought not to be too difficult? http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/ztt/cruise_control/ |

I have never seen that retrofitting cruise control was a factory option so that you would be able to purchase a "genuine loom for retrofitting", where did you get the part number from (YMC104410)? Unless it's the entire main loom... It's not difficult at all to make the wiring yourself. In fact, I have almost all the connectors needed to make another set. But it is ridiculously expensive to post from Estonia to the UK. The cheapest I'm aware of is 13.85 for a 1kg package. I've posted in several threads, describing my journey in making the loom. Basically the bits you need are: *) the 4 connectors from a scrapyard (I paid 2 each) *) lots of wire (best would be the same kind as the original (0.5 sq mm and thin insulation) but as I couldn't source any, I used 0.75 sq mm, using 3M scotchloks with this wire's thicker insulation is difficult, otherwise it doesn't matter) (about 0.30/m) *) 3 x 3M UB2 scotchloks (2 bus connections and 1 button backlight connection) (0.40 each) *) 2 x slightly bigger scotchloks (1 for both fuse boxes) (0.10 each) *) 2 x M6 earthing rings *) heat shrink sleeve with glue (1.50/m) *) 6 x solder shrink sleeves (e.g Tyco CWT-9001, or 9002 if you use larger wires. I used these for the last connections once the presoldered wiring had been routed inside the car and I connected them to the cruise ECU connector) (about 0.70 each) *) a soldering iron *) some solder *) something else that I might have forgotten

Believe it or not, that part number is genuine and is the diesel cruise loom. BUT as far as I can tell, it was never made available - as you very rightly say, the cruise loom is bundled with the main loom (one of several for various variants of our cars).
I have always wanted to locate a complete (or at least part!) of a main wiring loom with cruise and heated seats to retrofit these items - with the aim to unpick it, and fit the resulting subloom to my car. It may well be that making up a complete new loom from scratch is actually easier! |

PS brilliant link in your signature bar Andre - http://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/sh...d.php?t=176283
Time to start ordering lots of wire and finding the relevant connectors! |
