Good evening Kenton, we have not had the pleasure of meeting. I think it is very kind of you to help this member out and doing your best to keep his costs down low, given what has been said. I have a place in N11 and can tell the members here that I have a good knowledge of most of the garages in the area. One charges £250 just for diagnostics. My advice to members, is to stick with the forum mechanics and gurus, people like yourself who understand our cars. Cheers

I completely agree with this. I spent too much money on 'reputable' mechanics before turning to the Forum for help. Kenton, in particular, keeps my pride and joy in top nick for a very reasonable outlay compared to the non-specialists I used to use. The Forum mechanics are seriously brilliant and genuinely know what they're talking about.

Cheers my old V6 has gone into semi-retirement and is being looked after by Shiner, one of the forum gurus whilst I am out of the UK. He got it through an MOT with flying colours and is doing his best to sort everything out. I trust his judgement completely. He emails me regularly and keeps the car from rotting whilst I am away

We are lucky to have guys like Kenton and Shiner. I wish Farad all of the best with his 75

Thanks Kenton,
Appreciate you are helping..

despite I wanted to keep cost down as possible -as unemployed.. BUT i do NOT want NOT to pay! ..

As I said before, will pay whatever asked to repair my car -because I understand you are helping & considering the situation and I wont get charged too much here, so there should be no problem with that-

However, I assume making my engine run [if possible?*] is cheaper than changing an engine!, isn't it ?

I'm not able to change the engine (as it costs too much), and I surely want to keep the car, so still hope you can find a way to repair it..

Just to add;
I benefited so much by joining this forum and got help as I was new to Rover and needed advice..

And I am happy found a good mechanic (Kenton) through forum.. AND I DO KNOW IT IS MUCH MORE COST EFFECTIVE AND THEY ARE BEST EXPERTS THAT CAN BE FOUND..

Thank you for the explanation Kenton. I have no experience of seized engines so I was genuinely curious to know.

As the others have said, it is very good of you to help Farad.

Is this a failed head gasket and hydraulic lock of one or more of the cylinders Kenton?

Well, despite getting the customer to witness the NONE manual cranking of the engine, he has left the car with me.

he will not reply to text or calls on the two numbers i have

I work (rent) in a garage with about 200 years combined mechanical and about 80 years electrical experience. including bus, car, rail and aviation

After the customers appearance (pre xmas) at the garage the following was discussed:

he would buy another car and i would fit that engine!!!

i would supply a running engine and fit it NO guarantee 400-500

i would supply an engine, rebuild it, COMPLETELY (those that visit my workshop will know what i do!!!!) fit it and guarantee it

i would fix the fan THAT does not work and caused the overheating, an issue mentioned in previous posts

I advised:
Not to buy another car, as it would be double work, and extra car to pay storage for and no guarantee on engine

I would supply another engine (running) and fit for 400-500 service etc...

I would supply a rebuilt engine, belts, gaskets, pump, thermostat, service; autobox fluid, oils and air con regas - tested - T4- fix the fans -and guaranteed!! for 1000 fitted

customer has left the car outside my lock up for over a month, this is causing me problems, hassle i dont need and the only bill the customer has had is 200 for:
home visit,
new starter,
transport to my workshop,
and two hours labour on diagnostics, (wheel arch removal and refit in diagnosis process, fit starter)

i received a text from the customer to indicate that:
i did not want to fix his car
i was 2-3 times more expensive than his research
he would get the AA to pick up the car

I made it clear that the car is now not my responsibility!!!

I honestly wonder why i bother.

So, FROM NOW ON ONLY MY LOYAL CUSTOMERS WILL BE SERVED

i am returning to work, and will carry on helping all the customers that have supported me and looked after their cars; my labour charge to them is £10 per completed hour, T4 sessions for free.

There will be no more entries into the unit 4 ZT and 75 club - simples

on a separate note, two people have wanted my T4 - one doesnt like the fact the laptop is old, the other did not turn up although i opened the garage on new years day - you know who you are; and i had a friday booking last week from another member who did not turn up, nor advised that he would not turn up - again you know who you are - and dont fill my inbox now!!!
(the t4 is supplied from lovell is complete and includes all land rover discs - it is a proper t4!!)

it is a shame that such a service is offered - and believe me i went through it all with the ZT in my profile - but not appreciated (not by all)

My garage will stay open to all who have visited and spent money on their cars - and speaking to Seancar yesterday, I am not alone in my condemnation of those with champagne tastes and lemonade pockets - why do sooooo many think that it is cheap to run a V6 and you don't need to service your diesel!!! - or come to the garage and tell me how to do the job.

Help is always appreciated and I DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING

I cannot believe anyone would do this to Kenton, a really decent guy.
When I could not find a replacement power steering hose Kenton came up trumps with a second hand one that looked brand new. I'll also add it was a quarter of the price quoted by a certain supplier who had no stock and wanted me to place a "back order".
It might be just 1% of club members who want something for nothing but that 1% could make or break a useful and committed service for club members.

I find it truly criminal that someone has abused Kenton in this way
He's one of our trusted + well respected spanner men.
I've seen seancar in the past suffer the same level of abuse too !
What on earth is wrong with people - these are the guys who help us keep our cars on the road !
They are also the guys with families to feed + rent to pay ! !
Regards
Chris
