Clutch wine
Hello everybody out there in Rover land....can you help me I have just bought a Rover 75 T 2003 estate manual with 90k on the clock...I am really happy with it and it drives perfect except it has a noise from the clutch when I put the pedal down ....when I lift it up its gone...Its like whirling sound...its only slight but it could become annoying....any ideas what it is..is the clutch on the way out.....will it be expensive to fix...or would my local Mr Clutch depot fix it
any ideas please....thanks Last edited by bilsan330; 3rd June 2015 at 16:17.. |

Thrust bearing needs replacing but if it's the original clutch I would get the lot changed ..BUT use someone that knows their way around these cars. You could try Mike Stafford http://www.mjsautoandmarine.co.uk/ Cheers Ian |

As it's been stated, thrust bearing, if not too noisy it will last for a reasonable time period, certainly long enough to save up for a new clutch assy and slave cylinder that contains the thrust bearing. Just be gentle with it and don't keep the clutch peddle depressed when stationary, select neutral and it will save the bearing. |

You'll be looking at a bill for about £500 including parts, so unless you can get Andy,or someone similar ,as Rodger suggested, be prepared for a large invoice Don't entertain the likes of Mr clutch, you may get it done cheaper, but will likely need it doing again in 12 months time.
none of the fast fit centres are worth bothering with, get it done by someone who knows the cars . Get the dual mass flywheel checked for tolerance too. don't just replace the bearing, its part of the slave cylinder anyway, replace everything, then you know its right for a good few years.

It is actually known as the 'clutch release bearing', part of the slave cylinder. They can whine for years, or get quickly worse. Were it me, I would just let it be and see how it progresses for a while, if its barely audible.
Any Willi is the acknowledged expert and he does and will travel. If any part needs replacing on the clutch, because it is mostly labour cost of getting to it, its worth replacing the lot while in there.
