MK 1 looks much better to me, much more purposeful. I also think that the MK 1 looks more complete, finished off properly.
Whenever I see a MK 2 I think it looks like somethings missing as if it's been hastily put together Just my own opinion of course.

There is pro's and cons to both I feel.
I have a 2004 Firefrost Mark II Connoisseur and my wife has a 2002 Wedgwood Mark I Connoisseur. The MarK I is definitely more British in its styling and gives it that retro classic style that separates it from the rest of the cars of its time. However to a younger person in general the Mark I it would not appeal to. The Mark I out of the two is more desirable and it is the original Rover 75 after all. However the Mark II is more clean sleek and aggressive looking than the Mark I and with the right colour it can look very striking. The Mark II was definitely meant to appeal to the younger person. With some colours the Mark II is very bland I have to say and can look quite cheap. Where as the Mark I looks good in all colours including Moonstone. With mine stood next to my wife's mine some how looks bigger and seems to make more of a statement where as my wife is more reserved and classy. The Mark II with its head lamps may be more European it is styling but with the chrome trim and the grille still holds onto the British sense of style and is still very much a Rover. The Mark II is looking better as time goes on where as when it first come out I was unsure about it myself. I love them both and it is matter of taste. Overall the Mark I pips it for me because it is so very distinctive, classy and so very British. What ever own we should love them all and be very proud. My 75 mk 2 is shortly to leave my ownership and is to my surprise going to my 22 year old stepson,I don't think he would have considered a mk1 75 but a ZT in any flavour would have been ok

I prefer the front bumper and lights of the mk2 but the rear on the tourer is disappointing especially the way the parking sensors are not flush while the mk1 ones were.
I have a late mk2 tourer, I replaced the dash with real wood as thought the mk2 was cheap. Still think the car is great though and irreplaceable Last edited by peelaaa; 1st December 2015 at 11:58.. |

I prefer the MKII in both 75 and ZT guise - I think it has aged far better than the MKI and still oozes a premium vibe with the benefit of being a rarer sight on the roads
Horses for courses though - we all have our likes and dislikes but at least here we share a collective love for the marque. Ta James

I am more a fan of the mk1 front end personally , as I think it has a more classical look, but if I was to list what I like most about the mk2 features, for me it is the squared off rear bumper, and the boot plinth change. I could be happy with either, and I fully respect the tastes of those that undertake this work. Your cars will look great for it i'm sure

I've a late Mk 2 tourer, firefrost red. I think the Mk2 facelift has a neater rear than the Mk 1; not quite so sure about the front but I'm used to it. Having driving lamps helps and mine also has headlamp washers / xenons.
One thing that improved mine was replacing the front grille badge as the original had faded badly from water ingress. I've also done my best to close the yawning gap between the bonnet and the top of the grille. I also replaced my dash with a real wood one, I really don't like light oak and it creaked and rattled. Wheels? I've got winter tyres fitted at the moment on union alloys and I don't think it's a great combination - you see quite a few facelifts with Mk 1 alloys. My main wheels are forked spokes, 16" - a real pain to keep clean. I'd go for the starspoke 17" if I could find a set. |
