To all the TOAF guys...please don't hijack this thread, this one is about Virtual T4 and is essentially not the same program as yours.
I recognize the value in the software you're creating, even though I now own a T4 myself, so I probably wouldn't have the need for it, and I strongly feel these are two different offerings.

And I can vouch for Phil and his virtual T4 : he was not ready to sell it until now because it was just not ready. Phil has been talking to a select few about Virtual T4 for more than a couple of years now. He's also been commenting on here and other boards about the progress he was making. When I met him last april and asked about it, he said it was still in development and not yet ready for disclosure.

The fact that Phil didn't comment on your TOAF thread to mention Virtual-T4 there doesn't mean it didn't exist at the time.

Both of these programs are vastly different in their approach even though they aim to do most of the same stuff :
- Virtual-T4 is essentially a new piece of hardware that emulates the original T4 for Rover 75 and MG ZTs, yet still using the original MGR software that the Virtual-T4 owner needs to own already. It can therefore do whatever T4 could do with our cars in terms of diags and programming. It is therefore a proven and reliable diag tool.
- Your software is developed from scratch and through reverse-engineering (even though you mention that it uses T4 files, which would be copyright infringement anyway, unless proven otherwise) and as such, might not (yet) be as reliable or safe as the real T4 software.

So really, I see no point in your argument. Fellow enthusiasts will have two options, should they choose to have a diagnostic tool :
- a paid one, restricted to one or several VINs, but based around the exact same software package that dealers had
- a free one, unrestricted, yet lacking some features such as reprogramming ECUs by your own admission.

There's room for both.

There's another tool available by the way, one that is not free, called pscan.eu (a trader on here) and which is not restricted to 75/ZT cars and is still being improved free of charge for its owners (I own one of these too).

So really, plenty of opportunity, which is a good thing. Not two years ago, most of us were beginning to worry that diags for our cars would become difficult in the future, as T4 setups were becoming more and more rare and expensive.
All of these alternatives therefore serve their purpose. It's up to the owner to decide which tool is best to him.

As I don't already own MGR T4 software, does this rule VT4 out as an option for me?

Sorry I'm confused again.

So for Phil's version, I need to :-

a) source a laptop
b) purchase the software from him (limited to 5 cars, R75 only (no peoblem in my case)
c) also purchase some disks online?

Just for Information:

This is stand alone software - 1 file which you can copy into old 3,5' floppy disk and you're ready to config r75/ZT with any pc with win xp/vista/7 probably with older too.

Is writen from 0 in Delphi, t4 files was only used to know fsw_psw files where are Information about exact bits to change for every options,
There is no way to talking about any copyrights.

Thanks and I wish you happy New year guys
