Rover Mission Statement ( aims by 2005 )
Came across this with aspirations for 2005, hard to believe that was the year it all ended
It would be interesting to know whose ownership MG Rover was in when this was published and who came up with it Nice comments about the 75 though " By the year 2005 Rover will be established as a specialist manufacturer of premium positioned front wheel drive vehicles, marketing a range of motor cars competing in the medium and executive sectors of the market " Rover 75 is a further step towards this vision. The vehicle will attract those who aspire to the refined drive and on street presence of the Rover 75. The kudos of being seen in a Rover 75 is backed up with complete motoring pleasure, provided by the quality of the design and the engineering of the vehicle

This quote comes from the 75 Technical Introduction brochure, from its intro actually, released in late 1998 and part of the Rave documentation. This brochure and other technical ones, describing the various systems, were removed from the Rave documentation on later editions as they were redundant (and no longer up to date).
BMW was still the owner at the time, and this was indeed their target for Rover initially : to position them as a premium, british-feel brand that would complement their german, driver-oriented cars. This obviously would never happen...and MGR, when taking over in 2000, had other ambitions, such as remaining in the car volume market and trying to make ends meet, which included removing some of the "premium" feel of the 75 with the infamous Project Drive venture. I've attached this introduction to my post. The quote is at the very end of it.

Posted this before:- told by a person who had links through business, that by 2005 Rover would be no more. Did not believe him at the time. Wish I had. I could have made some money.
