Pre-production/launch car excitement
Today I attended the mg meet at whitstable with flying banana,
And was having an interesting conversation with one of the chaps about my 75, Cut the story short it was mentioned that mine could be a pre production. So getting all excited came home and after looking around the forum I have decided it's not a pr-production model or even a launch model. Although vin number is within the parameters of the launch cars. Reasons given for the maybe was I do not have a commission number on the drivers door pillar, on the vin plate there are 3 x 1's on the top line, and although it's Cowley built it has colour coded sills. But seeing that it is an early car, registered Sep 99. I'm still happy to own a piece of British history albeit not with the afore mentioned excitement lol

Why not drop a pm to Reebs with the full vin number. Paul has access to a data base, which holds a lot more detailed info about when the MGR cars were built, plus his knowledge. This will add to what you already know. I suspect yours could be a launch car. By the way, I love the colour

According to a post on here the launch cars had a specific spec etc, of which mine has none of the listed in the post. The post does state that 'regular' motors were in production at the same time as the launch cars. I love the colour to, but I haven't seen all colours in the flesh as it were so may change my mind in the future lol

Hello Phil,
Don't forget that launch cars didn't have 2.0 litre engines or ash grey upholstery and they were Connoisseurs not Clubs! I hope that you're keeping well. Simon

Sorry Phil. The OP, in his forum signature shown in post no. 1, describes his car thus:
1999 Rover 75 2.0l V6 Club SE Auto Wedgwood Blue (jel) with Ash Grey / Light Smokestone interior It therefore cannot be a launch car, as you suggested, because they were all 2.5 litre Connoisseurs with Neptune blue personal line interior. I just wanted to make sure that others reading this thread did not get the wrong impression, that's all. Simon
