Default Carrying weight load

Hi Guys...I want to collect a load of bricks in the back of my 75 estate the weight is about 680 kgs..I have worked out I can get all the bricks in but I want to double check if the car can carry it.

According to the manual MAX rear axle load is 1000 kgs 2205 lbs

Am I reading this right ??? can I carry the 680 kgs

Please advise thanks

Bill

I would say your pushing it a bit. Especially if your suspension hasn't had any attention since the car was new, your rear coil springs could well be snapped and MOT wouldn't necessarily pick this up.
If you have to, drop back seats down and stick a board down and get the weight as far forward as possible. Also don't forget you could probably double your stopping distances with that sort of weight in, be safe and think of others if not yourself. Good luck

No way
From a previous post:-
unladen weight is 1510 - 1635lg, not sure if higher figure is for a CDTI
max laden weight 2030 kg

Max load that can be carried for a diesel is 2030 - 1635 = 395KG including you as the driver.
The axle loading is the maximum including the weight of the vehicle and load. , not the vehicles carrying capacity.
What is max weight of vehicle shown on the VIN plate. This figure will be lower than adding the two axle loads together to allow for some imbalance between front & back.

Thanks but the manual says

MAX: rear axle load all models mine is an estate 1000kgs 2205 lbs it cant mean the driver as well there is no mention of that.

The bricks are 2 kgs each x 350 off spread over the car seems ok to me...how many would you put in then max.

Interested to know.....I have all new springs

Thanks

Can I assume that you aren't transporting them a long way? in which case make two trips - a lot easier on your car and less risky.

for the old school amongst us

680kg = 107 stone

that's 5 20 stone fella's worth. At that quantity local delivery shouldn't add a lot to the price and would save you completely.

I used to work at Rover and in our department was the section dealing with all the vehicle weights for homologation purposes. I can assure you that the axle loadings in the manual will generally match the VIN plate weights and the VIN plate figures are definitive ones the police and DVSA will use when weighing your vehicle if stopped . I don't have a 75 now but I look at my 45 book, Maximum Laden weight is 1720Kg Max front axle load is 940Kg and Maximum Rear axle lode is 840Kg . Unladen is about 1300 Kg . If I put 840kg in the vehicle it would weigh 2140kg ,well over the 1720Kg MAXIMUM laden weight . These number out of the manual match exactly the ones on the VIN plate

That's over half a ton of weight. You can't safely carry that in any car without hurting or breaking something or someone. That's why God invented pickup trucks. The lightest duty ones these days are rated at half a ton.

Your car, your call, especially if you have to explain it to a cop. You do know that cops routinely look at peoples online activity when they investigate stuff nowadays, right? They will find this thread.

Cheers,
Glenn

I def wouldn't put anywhere near that weight of bricks in my Tourer.

I'd even be a bit wary of putting 680 kgs of bricks in my old American full size Chevy Blazer and that's built on a 1/2 ton pick up body.
Be safer to have them delivered or hire a van maybe

I read the hand book as maximum axle load as indeed 1000kg but that's all weight, car and contents and also this is for saloon models. CDT and CDTI Tourers is 1060kg on rear axle.
unladen weight is say 1610 kg (1560 - 1665kg in the manual for cdt and cdti), max laden weight 2090. 2090 - 1610 leaves 480kg spread across the car for driver, passengers and contents.

what we don't know is unladen weight on rear axle.
