Offside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()

So, 3 bushes and something on the steering rack. Seems very little for £200 of labour, but I understand fitting them involves quite a bit of work (or so they tell me...) I showed them the parts, they looked to see where to fit them...

Co-incidentally, they had a small part delivered to the garage during their inspection, costing £53. Garage owner was not happy at the price, immediately 'phoned the supplier for a discount, and then sourced something 'similar' for £10...so I'm pretty sure the parts I have sourced are as fit for the job as anything they might have bought for me!
Well if it's the front track control arm rear bushes, then it's around an hour for both sides, the track rod replacement will require the car to be tracked up after fitting, so not a bad price in all honesty.

As to the parts, i wouldn't fit the ones you supplied me with, irrespective of where they were bought, and in the case of two of the particular parts you have purchased, especially so

Thanks for your input, Brian. I didn't realise you have issues with DMGRS, obviously, they must have supplied you with some duff parts in the past...despite their 3000 "thanks" in 2000 posts..?

On this stage, you are the premier expert on our vehicles, and I bow down to your great knowledge, so equably wielded for our recognisance. That DMGRS could have pi**ed you off (?) is a grave error indeed on their part, given the esteem and respect in which you are held on this forum! I shall have to be more vigilant and discriminating in any future purchases I might make.

I've no axe to grind either way, but experience denotes that a component that looks like this......

Is inferior quality, irrespective of whom the vendor is, and whatever claims that are made as to the provenance, quality or longevity.

Compare it to this component, and tell me if you can spot the difference......

Default More what my car did to me

This is what's left of the support bearing on the o/s driveshaft.
Struggled to get it off and had to resort to removing the driveshaft complete with hub.
Put the 3 legged puller on it still wouldn't come out
Tightened the puller up with the air gun , still not nudging.
Whacked the end of the puller with a club hammer and felt a burning sensation on the arm , looked down 1 inch gash and a lot of blood.
Trip to the drs , nurse wasn't sure if anything still in the cut , choice of clean it and see or hospital for x-ray.....chose the first option

The driveshaft is now at the local garage...let them struggle with it
I'm sure there should be more ball bearings than that

Picked up the driveshaft and hub from the garage today and pleased to report it all went back together without incident.
The last few days I have noticed the abs kicking in at low speeds , but on the test drive it didn't do it so putting that down to the bearing falling apart as well.
Noticed the rubber boot on the track rod end was split so that needs doing.
Cleaned the disc up and noticed this , so another job

Admired the layer of dust building up on the car and the scratches my neighbour caused when covering the car to 'protect it' from paint....

Not quite had time to finish the 260's rear camera.
But this should look a bit better just above it .

Whilst sitting on the edge of the tourers boot having my dinner the other day at work I noticed the spot weld was rusty on the tailgate strut ball joint and there’s a small crack. Huge thanks to Steve I’ve now stopped this from getting any worse. Aerosol can was from Paints4U.com Limited off eBay and was a really good match with quick delivery.

The spot welds seem to be a common starting point for rust - especially behind the rear wheel arch liners and the area above the rear springs. Once I'd noticed it I wire brushed all of them back to bare metal.

Ditto for those strange circular things** in the wheel well floor - I spotted cracks in the underbody seal around the rims and surface rust was lurking underneath. (** There are several others elsewhere in the floorpan iirc).
