So the Limo definitely gone? I thought you have to register is as scrapped, but it’s still registered as SORN. When you say the old MG Rovers were crushed, did they still have them up until recently? If so, why not just sell them. Terrible company if true, they have no recognition of the history. Also, Wonder what they’re doing with a streetwise... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have a friend who works in Land Rover development, this subject has come up often and his answer is you really would not want a development car as they are nothing like the cars you drive on the road every day. Apparently they have little or no rust protection, most of the niceties dont work like heater, A/C and radio.
He was also saying if you saved every development or prototype you would have a lot of cars. The latest defender for example has had over 100 prototypes before they put any down the line. He was telling me on the latest Disco Sport they made 25 pre prodcution prototypes and all these were to see what teething troubles are with them. These once they have done set mileages are stripped to see how parts are faring up. The ones with 100k miles on them are apparently usually quite rusty underneath by the time they get stripped. Once stripped they are scrapped. |

The Limo is road legal, produced by Rover with no special parts other than its longer I believe. As for the prototypes I didn’t realise they drove them! But I think people would want to see ‘what if’ Rover ever returned, and also to keep the last piece of car that was made...that was never seen on the roads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have worked for lock companies and there are locks all over the place. Anything that's not perfect and saleable is scrapped. Literally tons of functioning locks.
The car companies operate the same way only on a larger scale In the early 70's BMC/ British Leyland here in Canada closed their competition department and disposed of all their stock. Sensible minds would think they would have given the parts to race teams and the like to promote their vehicles but instead they destroyed everything. Imagine dozens of brand new straight cut gearboxes for Cooper S's being lifted to full height on forklifts and dropped to smash on the the concrete.

Apparently the company that takes away the scrap is contracted to crush everything, they are not even allowed to sell wheels and lights. |

A few more issues with prototypes would be type approval for not only the vehicle but also some individual parts then there would iva testing issues too I am sure.
Then you have the biggest killer in emissions.if it wasnt registered before, it would need to pass whatever the current emissions limits would be (and I dont thinkmany if any of mgr products would meet the standards of recent years). That is if you wanted to use them.on the public roads. Next step insurance ..... lol. Sent from my SM-A600FN using Tapatalk

The 75 isn’t a prototype tho, it’s a registered car that hasn’t been in the road since 2011. It is registered SORN. If they’d scrapped it I tbink the SORN tag would’ve been removed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Any car that has been lying around for 9 years, especially one that has been essentially cut and shut, should be viewed with extreme caution. Even more so if that car was used as transport around a car plant. Some prototypes/prepoduction do get out into the wild though. The 4x4 tourer, and a few Fiat/GM J type engined ones for instance. Then you have the V8s, which due to confusion on the bastardised management systems, these could be argued that they are development cars lol. Scrapping a car doesnt necessarily remove a sorn tag (or tax expired). A tax expired tag though will be picked up on, by the last registered keeper, as they would receive an automatic fine. A sorn tagged one wouldnt necessarily be noticed, especially if the registered keeper ceased to exist since 2005, or was professionally embarrassed by it (Nanjing executive for example - the MG 6 came out around 2011?).

I doubt anyone at mgr would have bothered with the documentation side of things, it probably just went on the back of a wagon to be disposed of. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did the Prototype cars get scrapped a few months ago, I thought they were put back behind the stage In the conference centre? The last time I was at Longbridge I was told the 75 limo was used as a pool car for collecting visitors to MG UK
