ABS. Where to look?
I could trawl through loads of ABS posts but these symptoms may be definitive. Left hand turns, moderate speed braking /slow speed braking, all normal.
Right hand turns, moderate speed braking, normal. Right hand turns, very slow speed, ABS noise (grinding) and the ABS light pops on every time. I'm thinking gunge/rust on a magnetic ring (or damaged) or loose sensor plug. Now the question-which wheel? No bearing noise at all. Your thoughts please, don't want to phone a friend. Cheers. Just to add, after the ignition is switched off and back on again, the light goes out (self test I guess) Last edited by Heddy; 23rd November 2020 at 17:00.. Reason: more info |

Movement on a wheel bearing perhaps.
ABS won't make a grinding noise but a wheel bearing could cause it.--ABS working shows itself as a pulsing on the brake pedal.--- |

Had this on my old 75 - rear wheels caused by the build-up of rust on the back plates, new back plate kit from DMGRS with shoes, cleaned magnetic track and all good.
If you want to be sure run Toaf on it and it will tell you which corner is playing up but sounds like similar to mine. Regards |

Thanks for the replies, car is really quiet on new smooth tarmac but I guess slight play in a bearing may cause this. Regarding rust on the rear magnetic rings, this is likely, I've encountered this on another 75 I had, will get a new bearing and hub. For the cost involved it's worth a try.

I would guess at driver side rear.
Reason: Probable that ABS is kicking in due to thinking a wheel has locked up/not receiving a signal from sensor. 1, speedo working front offside sensor working 2, No warnings on for cruise or traction front offside and nearside sensor working. 3, Left hand corner means drivers side wheels rotate faster than passenger side 4, Right hand corner means passenger side wheels rotate faster than drivers side The above would suggest that when the speed drops below a certain point the signal is lost. R/H bend will slow drivers side wheels the most. I thank you ...........
