Does the car have a sun roof?don't want to frighten you but could it be the light switch as this can cause strange things to happen if it gets wet even a FIRE!!!

I had a similar issue....my alarm would go off and my windscreen wipers would turn on. The issue I had was in the boot and water ingress causing a short on the sat nav system.

Thanks for replies, however, no sat nav and no sunroof. Boot is getting soaked yes, but it's the clips at the base of the rear screen. it's been behaving for a few days now, I'm scared to re-connect the alarm horn.

Try connecting the alarm and see if it goes off. If it does, I would think you have a problem with water ingress somewhere. Have you had a look at the bonnet lock. Been raining quite a lot lately and that switch is right at the front as you know.

I think it will be ok, the doors were trying to lock/unlock, the alarm was bipping and hazards were spasmodic flashing. Disconnected the alarm and had the same but of course, no bipping. All seems to have settled so should be ok to reconnect, until Storm Bella arrives that is.

Funnily enough I had exactly the same problem on Christmas eve. Random beeping, random hazards flashing and doors trying to lock. After a few hours of trying to sort it out I got fed up and decided to let it get on with it. When I got up on Christmas morning it was fine and has been since (touch wood.)

It started when I was washing it on Christmas eve morning and the doors randomly locked on their own, so again more than likely water ingress.
