Default Is my car going faster or have I had too much Christmas Pud

I am just curious my 75 Turbo for the last 6 months has had a small leak on the exhaust and just before Christmas the back box went bust...Now I have a new back box with the regular twin pipes coming out and the leak repaired.

But is it my imagination the car seems to go faster with a lovely turbo roar. Was I losing performance with exhaust leak.... Do these turbos need back pressure ????

My back box started to lose "horse hair" out of the back after the MOT. I suspect that the emissions probe probably popped throught the rusty interior pipe and "loosed its curls"! It definitely didn't run correctly with the partially blocked exhaust. The back boxes seem to go from the inside out, probably due to the collection of condensation. I drill a small hole at the lowest point to allow the water to drain out. A self tapper in for the MOT and all is well.
