Default Toaf and Abs

I have an ABS fault.

Toaf says rear left sensor..........

Now am I right in thinking this is as if you are sitting in the car.... IE......nearside rear.

or is it as if you are looking at the car from the front ?

I've replaced the NSR sensor and it is still coming up as a fault.

Sorry if this is a silly question , but have you driven the car since replacing the sensor ? It needs to move to return an ok signal .
And yes , it is NSR

I would suggest yes, as if sat in the car. Left referring to offside (UK) is usual only when looking at items under the bonnet.

If you just plug a good sensor in, without installing it, then the ABS light should go off - but it will reappear as soon as the car is moved.

You can check for the pulses from an installed sensor, by jacking the wheel up and rotating it slowly, marking the position of the pulse on the tyre. The method has been explained at length in other threads.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Like and idiot i re-installed everything in the car before testing it !

You have to strip the back out the tourer to get at the sensor

I'll see if I can find the said thread about the pulses thing

Could be.... was very rusty in there. Cleaned it up as best i can.

I have sent a PM to ask about hiring the sensor tester..... that will help a lot.

You don't need a sensor tester - a multimeter will do the job. The voltage will change between 1.7 and 0.7 volts as each magnetic reluctor segment passes the sensor.

An ABS plug and socket from a scrappy, a bit of old two core speaker wire and some chocbloc and you can spin the wheel and check the result at your leisure.
