Recommendations for phone privacy
I noted an unwelcome addition in the form of the latest iOS update 13.5.1 which has installed automatically to my iPhone 6 despite have automatic updates turned off.
A new Covid-19 exposure logging feature added to the health app I would like to hear from anyone who has experience in either restoring an iPhone to a previous iOS, or who has a protective case for their phone that prevents RFID and bluetooth transmission Until I can resolve this one way or another, I will be leaving the phone in the house, I simply do not trust that my privacy will be respected. Absolutely unbelievable Brian |

On a basic level, if you’re worried about your privacy, it’s probably not wise to have a smart phone at all. Your activity is logged no matter what and the real issue is how that data is used. Fortunately, you have an iPhone and, as shown in the USA, Apple has been entirely resistant to allowing any backdoor access to data on locked phones even when demanded by national security forces. Android doesn’t have that level of corporate decision-making behind it for obvious reasons and I’d be a little more wary of data on an Android phone being accessed without consent if I had one of those. Just don’t download any Covid tracing app and I think you’ll be fine.

It's annoying that even though my phone is set in a way as to not download and install updates automatically, update 13.5.1 both downloaded and installed without any permissions or interventions It should be interesting to see the reaction when I go along to the O2 shop to ask them for a big sim card, as I'm upgrading from an iPhone 6s to a Nokia 6310i Brian |

I can picture the Not The Nine O’Clock News sketch: ‘A Gram-o-phone, Grandad? I’m afraid we haven’t got any gram-o-phones...’ Interestingly, I’m also using a 6S with updates turned off and mine didn’t update automatically.

I need a phone that makes and receives phone calls, I don't need to text, access the net, social media, or play games. The only stipulation really is the need for bluetooth for handsfree calling in the car. And the best part is, it won't take pictures of the inside of my pocket, or dial random numbers Brian |

I’ve still got my Nokia 6310i, a great phone and only had to charge it once a week not like every day with the iPhone.
I keep the Nokia as my Saab 93 has the factory fit Nokia cradle and it just looks so right in a 19 year old car. |

The 214 has a Cark-51 fitted, perhaps a 3310 for the car
