Default Great EGR bypass kit

Having stumbled across Colin's excellent YouTube video on why and how to fit an EGR by-pass here I have just fitted this EGR bypass kit.

Cost me £33 - marginally more expensive that those listed on EBay from Poland or China - but not subject to the lunatic Brexit customs duty.

Looks very well made with all the bits and took me 3/4 hour to swap over. Maybe drives a smidgeon smoother - hard to tell - but I don't have to worry about cleaning the old valve out anymore. Recommended.

Hi Dave.
The bypass is a good mod but only really effective if the manifold as been cleaned out and the MAP sensor wiped nice and clean a gutted original EGR is better in my opinion as it's OE and is less likely to be picked up on a MOT test, whereas the after market ones are.

Clean out the manifold if you have not done so already.
5

Clean the MAP sensor.

Hi Dave.
Yes sorry but the manifold also need s to be clean really to get the best out of the bypass.

Also i notice the EGR bypass you have bought and fitted does not have the cooler pipe support that the original as and some after market EGR blanks have photos below.

After market by pass with cooler support.

I note your kit as two shims to block of the cooler pipe, therefore leaving no support for the cooler which can and will vibrate which will most likely fracture the concertina part of the pipe work, creating a leak personally i would not fit the type you have purchased.

True, but I'm going by Colin R's (NI) video. I seem to be caught between two gurus.. I have to say the cooler pipe is very stiff and will not bend at all like shown in the video mentioned.

HI Anthony.
I did not read that in the post/thread, therefore i apologise if so, it would be good if the OP can confirm this, and how he routed the coolant pipe which is also fitted to the cooler on an Auto.

The manual does not have the cooler, it just has the rear exhaust pipe going to the EGR which if not removed and the back plate fitted will not have support as i pointed out above.

cooler on the Auto and it's coolant pipe attached.

I followed Colin's video precisely: mine is an auto 2004.

Hi Dave.
Yes i noted that from your profile, as mine is also, that is why i put up the photos of the cooler, and wondered if you had removed the cooler as Anthony said in his post maybe he was talking about Colin removing the exhaust pipe?

It still remains that there is no support for the concertina coming from the cooler to the EGR, they have know to fail after doing the EGR bypass so just an heads up.
