Sorry, but how does a number plate with incorrectly spaced letters make a vehicle unroadworthy or a danger to other road users?
This is nothing more than a money spinner and a way to bump up the crime figures to make it look as if there doing something instead of sitting in krispy kreme doughnut drive through car parks stuffing their collective faces when old granny is getting mugged.

I enjoy cycling a lot and always record my rides with a Go pro camera fitted to the front of the bike. It's mainly a hobby i enjoy messing around with editing and taking nice shots of what's around me. It's quite surprising though to see that many cars use non photo genic number plates. I think it's a film or spay that's put over the plate and when they come into view of my camera the image is somehow blotted out.

Of course if you obey the rules there is no fine.
There is a saying I think along the lines of " a fool and their money is easily parted'. If I get caught speeding then I have to put my big boy trousers on and pay my fine. If I have a non standard or an illegal plate then likewise I have to be a grown up and pay the fine. Alternatively I obey the rules and don't have to pay anything. It's a bit like a thief complaining about the minimum sentence being increased. Don't steal and you don't go to prison |

I always think that if you have to resort to spacing the plate incorrectly or adding bolt caps in an attempt to form the word you want then you're trying far too hard & make yourself look faintly ridiculous. Still, if they're going to nick me for the Rover badge on the end of my correctly spaced five character front plate & the small 'One of Britain's fine cars' slogan on the bottom of it then it is indeed a money-making exercise.

I think a lot of the comments on the subject of number plates come from Facebook . Since some people think it is ok to not comply with the law on the spacing and font on number plates, I think my idea that I need not bother to have insurance or mot, or come to that, even a driving licence. Oh just a minute, you have to have all three mentioned. Don’t see why you do..........probably because I am thick or I have the same attitude to the law that some people have .I really do not understand where some people get their selfish stupid attitudes from. Could be Facebook where of course everything is true on there. I just wish those with the ‘I can do anything I like’ meet up with similar minded people.

If an ANPR camera can read it then it IS recognisable. If YOU can't see that, then I'm not sure YOU'RE old enough to be driving

Car was completely legal bar his number plate. He had moved his private plate letters over, I can't remember it at the time as he lost the entitlement to the plate over the whole thing as it made the papers, and in Northern Ireland the dva is permitted to Act on behalf of the secretary of state to withdraw your number plate after 3 offenses or a single "significant" offense. In the end but it went something like this (this was not the plate its an example) B111W XX instead of B111 WXX Insurance company assessed the car at his place and he had refitted legal plates at this stage, but her insurance company showed he had illegal number plates as the girl had taken photos of them at the crash. He lost his cover despite it having absolutely nothing to do with the cause of the crash, and was sued for nearly 100 grand by the girlhe rear ended. Her fella was a high ranking civil servant here and he ended up remortgaging his house to defend himself. Only thing saved him was dash cam footage showed she had slammed on the brake going through a green light that changed orange however he still ended up nearly £20 grand outta pocket paying for the damage to the girls Maserati as judge decided he was driving to close to her, and she admitted in court she had panicked driving so he was off the hook for any personal injuries caused from the rear impact. So they settled in court for him to cover repairs and she would never claim for injuries etc. Judge wouldn't dismiss the case as he was being made an example off. And best of all, after going through all that his BMW was taken from his driveway by traveling caravan enthusiasts when it was uninsured after the crash when he had it for sale after fixing it up again! Yep, so over a set of £30 ebay number plates he has since had a nightmare getting insurance, now uses a company specialising in convictions / criminals etc called Acorn. He lost his ncb as it was over 2 years before any one would insure him again on his own, had to go on his wife's cover as a named driver initially and now pays over £3000 for one of those Peugeot 107s which he hates with a passion. So whilst I feel really bad for him, if someone crashes into your car, and something like that leaves them uninsured, leaving you out of pocket well, how would you feel about it. Bottom line, check your policy, I guarantee it states about number plate needing to be clear, legal and correct sizes. I know mine do, and it was emphasised on my classic policy when I renewed also due to the legislation changing after Brexit.
