Default AA breakdown insurance

How lucky am I! Late last year I took out the AA breakdown cover, on both Mine and the missus car, I originally took it out for her in doors as she owns a 206, probably one of the most unreliable cars around, but couldnt resist the price for both cars. Anyway I am travelling from Bexley to Bournemouth to work at the moment, and just as I set off this morning the dash lights up like the Enterprise. The AA attend and tell me its the alternator and promptly tow it to a garage of my choice to be replaced, so for the £25 excess I am having probably £400 + worth of work done!!
After the year I have had this could have been the worst news possible. Not impressed though with the alternator failing @ 56k (my old 75 cdt did 149k on it original) thought Valeo were a half decent make.
