Wish for:
Sophos endpoint protection. -Simply the most comprehensive level of protection I have ever discovered.

Windows XP was and still is a solid OS, however Windows 7 is the way forward now.

Windows 8, in my opinion is designed for the use of tablets and touch screen interfaces, not for the home pc where most people won't have a touch screen interface and will use a conventional mouse.

I migrated all of our pc's to Win7 last year and the experience was completely painless.

However I don't think I'll be touching Win8 simply because of the silly tile interface.

Personally I still use Win7 at home, firstly it's because what I'm used to and secondly my 5 screen Eyefinity set up doesn't play nice with Win8.

Windows 8.1 is a SLIGHT improvement on 8 - you can now have the machine boot up to a Windows 7 type screen. The tiles are still hovering around in the background if you want them - but to me, without a touch screen, the interface is useless - especially from a mouse pad. Windows 8 is a little better if you use a cordless mouse - there's less chance of swiping unwanted apps. onto the screen every time you go near the edges of the screen

I won't move to windows 8 until they sort out the Eyefinity issue. That's the deal breaker for me.

James as far as I am aware that is not true. 3rd party suppliers paid for the additional 1 year support not the government. This was due to the 800,000 odd Windows XP NHS machines. Or so I am lead to believe. On the 8th of April we were geared up to cut off the NHS. Their reprieve came at the 11th hour.

Like others have said Windows 8 is useless without a touchscreen. Ironically I have used a windows 8 phone for ages and its the most stable device I have had the pleasure of using. In a business environment or even in the home the change between xp and 8 is too great. 7 is the way to go.

Never had a problem with AVG free. Great for a home user.

We have fewer viruses in Guisborough Andrew
I used AVG Professional at work for a number of years - and we were constantly using customers' own files, both via email and flash drives - with no problems at all. Previously, we had used Norton on both PCs and Macs - most memory hungry software I think I've ever come across !

Being tight, and retired, I now use AVG Free
