Default Urgent request - V6 accelerator cable

Anyone got a spare accelerator cable (2.5KV6 auto)?
Mine is fraying, and when I take my foot off, the cable sticks in the open position so that the reves stay high.

Wink Accelerator cable

Hi Stewart,
I had the same problem but it was the small spring at the end of the cable (next to inlet manifold) which was dirty and sticky.
I sprayed WD 40 a few times, manually activated the spring up and down, and problem solved
Hope this helps,
Best wishes
Phil

Definitely a frayed cable; the frayed bit enters the sleeve then sticks. I've now ordered a new one from Rimmers so that should be ok.
As for WD40, I wouldn't use it. It is a water dispersing fluid (though they do other fluids which are not so common to find - WD40 is just the brand name). Oil, particularly penetrating oil, is what you should use. Or if an electrical problem use a switch cleaner like Servisol.

It is Stewart but on the can it also says: "Cleans & protects, lubricates, penetrates, stops squeaks, loosens rusted parts, frees sticky mechanisms."
Since your preference is for a penetrating oil it seems to fit that bill according to the manufacturer. I used it recently to lubricate a friend's completely dry bonnet release catch and it was extremely effective.
