T4 question
Hi,
Would T4 highlight a failing intank pump (single pump system), either by fault code ,or just by seeing its running performance? My one appears to have failed the same day as a diagnostic check up, which came up with a clean bill of health. Thanks |

I reckon it would depend on how it was failing. T4 measures the LP fuel pressure from the sensor on the fuel filter, so if the ITP wasn't pumping as it should then that would show up.
If however the pump failed like the earlier designs do due to the commutator segments wearing out then no - it will work fine up until the time it doesn't start. Probably a bit more to it than that though - I'm sure a T4 expert can give you a more in depth answer. Sadly I don't own a T4, just a Sykes Pickavant ACR4. Good enough for what I need it to do, but a T4 it ain't. . Last edited by Mike Noc; 20th February 2016 at 09:10.. |

Can you hear it running at ignition on? (Put ear to tank filler hole while assistant turns ignition key)

I would say a fuel pressure test would be the most accurate way to tell personally.
I use a Snap-On Modis Ultra but like Mike has said above, the T4 would only take it's reading from the pressure sensor, just like any other scanner. As you said failing rather than failed, I assume the car still runs ? |

If it has stopped check that it is being supplied with power. If your ECM has gone for a swim the fuel pump relay may not energise.

Pump
Thanks for the replies,
The pump is making a noise, but sounds weird (according to the AA ). The car cut out (m25 fast lane) and wont start. The AA use a Bosch fault code reader, with low fuel pressure the only pointer. No fuel is being delivered to the filter head. Thanks Paul |

Maybe some pipework has come adrift in the tank, or the pressure regulator has failed?
If you lift the rear seat base out there are two inspection panels - remove them and the fuel tank modules can be lifted out after knocking the locking rings off. |

How much fuel is in the tank ? Make sure the sender is accurate first, try diagnostics mode 19 then 2 make sure the fuel dial works, the remove hatch to pump disconnect black terminal block clean with elec spray, don't forget if it's definetly the pump you can replace the insert. Also make sure that you have fuel in both parts of the saddle tank, I knew a ZT that wouldn't draw fuel from the passenger side due to a blockage. Also the intank pump has a metal gauze filter that can get gunk all over it, removed a few like that. Hope that helps mate PM me if you need my help Mick

Pump
Thanks Mick,
will be looking at it tomorrow. The pump is less than 18 months old, and is a genuine VDO unit. Will look at the filter and check for blockages. Cheers Paul |

I believe that our pscan.eu tool can read this as well. I think that it is called pre-supply pressure. Have a look at the screenshots here http://www.pscan.eu/features/edc15c4.html [/shameless plug] |
