Australian members near Perth

Hi,
This is a long shot, but here goes.
My youngest is on a two year working holiday,
Early last year they bought a Ford escape to get around in. It has been a dog, and has cost them a fortune in repairs.
Does anyone know of a good (cheapish) car that
Will see them through their second year?
They are near Two rocks at the moment,and will be going back to fremantle in a couple of weeks.
