Perhaps it's a timely reminder for others to check them and replace if necessary before something really nasty happens!
I had just rested my hand on the edge of the wing and bonnet whilst checking the side of a tyre. Slight gust of wind and ! I now have an almost circular scar where the flap of skin was left on by a few mm. Bandaged up with a lolly stick to stop me bending my finger and opening up the wound! Took over a week to heal sufficiently to bend the finger again.

Nasty stuff.

I must confess that a few moderate gusts of wind were blowing my bonnet down until someone put the link to the struts on this thread several months ago.

Pretty inexpensive and easy even for a strapper to fit and problem solved. A simple must do for a 20 year old car I'd have thought.

Are the boot lid struts the same model does anyone know? Or if they're different does the same firm produce them?

Very lucky indeed not to loose it!

These cars are at an age now where if the strutts are the originals they have to be getting tired so should probably be routinely replaced.for safety.

Be warned out there.

A definite vote for SGS from me. Replaced mine back in May when I got brained by the bonnet coming down. Saw stars that day!

A new set makes it easier to access the bonnet catch on my ZT too, as they give the bonnet a slight lift once you pull the release.
Just need to get the boot ones done now, as they are getting weak.

Cheap and easy enough to change Jon,best to do it for peace of mind. Problem is there is no warning of them weakening in some cases, mine for instance! And mine certainly haven't had a hard life despite Ronnie's jest.

SGS are a reasonable price too. Around £15 per pair if memory serves.

The genuine MGR ones at Rimmers are £30+ a piece!
