SACHS slave cylinder, or is it?
With all the issues with slave cylinders in recent years I bit the bullet and splashed out £140 on a SACHS C.Slave cylinder for my latest project. Being under the impression that SACHS are top quality and having had an MGR specialist advise that he only fits SACHS due to all the others failing with LUK being yeh worst......
...I was a little annoyed then to see an LUK label when I opened the box. The label is only on one of the pipes - it does have SACHS printed on the body, and ap embossed on one of the shoulders by the pipe outlets. I’ve now got two questions running around my head; 1) is it a Sachs, ap, or LUK, 2) is it any good? To be honest I’ve also got a Rymec slave which was half the price, has none of those brand names on it, but it feels better because with less wobble in the pipes and the bearing face itself |

I found the same when I purchased Sachs, finding LUK markings as you say. Mine appears to be functioning as it it should for the last 6 months.
The concern I have is that the now rigid pipe work connected to the slave means more stress is applied to the part when fitting. This can't be good. Not sure why the more flexible pipe work fitted to the originals was ditched? |

Did you change master cylinder or dmf too?
I questioned my local MGR specialist (MJS auto marine) about slave failures on the 75/ZT and he said it’s because people don’t change the dmf - on the diesel anyway. I agree the plastic pipe work was much better! No idea why they’ve changed to metal pipes. I mean it’s not like the plastic pipes weren’t good enough - they never burst, broke, leaked etc. Easier fitting, less vibrations, and lighter too. |

Mine was on a V6. It was (apparently) a Borg and Beck. Rigid metal pipes. Kept weeping so lost clutch pedal every couple of weeks.
Cheap parts are only cheap if they do the same job as the relatively more expensive parts. Not if they cost the owner a fortune in time and recurring repairs, not to mention additional landfill. |
