So will the next stage be the stopping of the general public being able to purchase engine oil to do home oil changes as there is a possibility that they will not dispose of the old oil correctly?

Post 20, yes, this amplifies the info. in post 16.

Provided that this "exercise" is still today, as it started out 4 odd years ago, then it is unintended consequences.

However, unintended or otherwise, it is clearly now a real problem.

Thanks to MGR South Devon, for publicising this.

Regards

Mike

It won’t stop cars being stolen and broken to order by dodgy breakers.

The same as the draconian measures we now have for getting replacement number plates has not stopped the growth of cars being driven on cloned plates.

The criminal elements swiftly made other arrangements to get false plates so as normal it was only the law abiding general public who are being inconvenienced.

This is indeed worrying for people like me and my wife where our daily cars are all over 15 years old so obtaining parts is a must.. no parts, no getting to work...

On a funny note a thought had just occured to me, could adverts on ebay be made in such a fashion that the whole car is advertised at a price that most would simply think is a scam i.e £360,000. With the title listing as "adopt a piece of this car" ?

With a description of if you wish to adopt a piece of this car please message to adopt of piece.. where a price can then be agreed upon for the part the person wishes to adopt (purchase).

Would this not work?

😂

looking for away round the rules.
place advert in wrong section of ebay, add part number in title
would this make it difficult to find the advert to remove and as for buyers, would they just search by part number?

Quote fron 4 years old doc issued by Environmental Agency

"If a business or individual wants to receive waste vehicles for recycling or for dismantling parts, they must apply for an environmental permit. They can do this online at gov.uk."

If we already have the vehicle because we used to drive it and decide to sell some parts and then send it to the scrappy, we are NOT receiving a vehicle, the licensed scrappy will eventually receive it.

Who knows. But doubtful, never been any mention of legislation to do so, and people working on cars at home is quite niche these days, compared to the 60s/70s

There are plenty of ways to dispose of used oil for free, I can take it to the local tip, or indeed, the council will take it away with the recycling.

Im just not sure what the concern is with this. Professional breakers with the proper licences can trade, there is nothing stopping private individuals selling parts. As those links suggest, they are going for those illegal breakers, and then, ts on a cae by case basis.

absolutely ludicrous rule to enforce.
When does anyone have the right to dictate what you decide to sell in a private capacity.
If ebay really thinks about it, rules like this will the begining of the end for users of ebay for selling anything.
It will go back to listing ads in local papers.
