I'm glad that you found the problem yourself.

Martin started this thread seeking help with his misfiring ZT-T 180 with a coolant leak. I first visited him at the end of June and, with many breaks for parts delivery and holidays, all necessary work was completed yesterday.
  • The coolant leak was stemmed when original plastic parts with new 'O' rings replaced the Kaiser metal kit.
  • Defective sealant was replaced on the LH bank cam carrier to stop engine oil leakage onto the sparking plugs.
  • Two camshafts with historic end damage were renewed. A third was replaced as a precaution at Martin's request.
  • The valve timing was incorrect due to following Laser Tools' instruction* to use the Rover 2.5 litre adaptors for the MG 180 engine. The 190 adaptors are, in fact, required and these were made-up by modifying the Rover 2.0 litre item. Thanks to Phil-T4 for the tip!

The engine now runs beautifully smoothly. The misfiring, general lumpiness, high idle speed, hot running, plug fouling and coolant leak have all been cured. It's been a pleasure to assist Martin. We may well meet again soon as the MOT is due next week!

Simon

* In fairness to Laser, Sealey has made the same mistake.

Edit: The ZT-T passed its MOT with no advisories.

Good to see the issues have been resolved, and hope they do not reappear.

I know how frustrating it can be having to deal with reoccurring failures and faults.

I also have to attend to my thermostat seals leaking again, once I have my tractor on the road.
