The previous owner of my 260 removed the "sporty" exhaust it came with (no idea what it was) and fitted a standard system. The exhaust boomed so badly that his young son wouldn't go in the car.

i think the reason being that on a st/st system the "baffles" inside the silencers are very limited in effect to the ones incorporated on O.E.M stock. and less numerous.

Previous one was probably fitted for all out performance and track days etc.Alhough mine isn't a daily driver,I still want it to sound acceptably quiet when cruising and about town.It would be nice to free up a few more hp and some useable torque in the process.

I had a mid-sporting stainless cat back exhaust fitted to my ZT 190 by Tony Banks in Leeds about 4 years ago, Tony asked what I wanted and I said I wanted to let a bit more of that V6 noise out but I did not want to "P" the neighbours off, it was worth every penny and will never need replacing again, when you accelerate you get the roar and whipping your foot off gives you a bit of noise, when your cruising along (Which is what you're doing most of the time anyway) you get a very similar sound to the standard exhaust.

My brother went to Tony Banks for a full system on his 75 CDT Auto and went for the quiet as a mouse system.
It's a really great install, propperly tucked up behind the bumper with curved down tail pipes. As for the sound, it's very slightly louder than standard outside the car, but inside the car it's still super quiet and there's no drone at all when driving the car. |

When Longlife fitted one to my (Honda V6) Sterling I was offered stock, a little louder than stock, a lot louder than stock... I went to a little louder. It sounded great bimbling around town but on long motorway trips the drone was quite draining. Now most of my driving is blimbling anyway, I'd by tempted by slightly louder than stock if I go SS for the 75.

I just rang Tony Banks to get the car booked in.I thought he may be a little quieter with Christmas approaching but the first slot he had was the 5th of January The backbox has a small hole making it a little raspy but it's not my daily so the wait is not an issue.I'll report back with my thoughts on the new system when fitted

It's now just over six months since I had my new Freeflowing cat back SS exhaust system ( With Mild Sport Note ) fitted by Tony Banks, so having had chance to throughly assess it I thought I'd give a little feedback for anyone else considering the same option.
First impression was 'wow' how much more eager and responsive it is off the mark and when overtaking.Has a nice induction growl when pulling away in spirited fashion but is generally quiet while cruising, exactly what I was looking for.The system has quietened down over time now it has carboned up a little. It's certainly not OE quiet but I didn't specify that,a second silencer can be added for those who find it a little throaty but I'm more than happy with it.At idle there is a lovely soft burble - mini V8 esque One of the nicest surprises is that it has also improved mpg by around 5 - 6 miles due to less restriction. A few pic's

I had a stainless system fitted to Tarquin by MIJ Exhausts in Walsall.
Utter silence. It was wonderful.
