We should be used to being shafted at every turn. We are useful idiots, we don't know A from a Bull's foot. Can anyone see the stately homes of so many of our 'elders and betters' turning the wick down a bit?

UK has ample resources for a country this size and without the need for fashionable new world solutions with which to impress our neighbours. This island is totally surrounded by tidal flow, we have incredible stocks of fossil fuel (yes, I know, coal, so turn it into coke). Taken together with our wet climate it's madness, or vain hope, of securing approval of neighbours merely to curry favour or be a member of a phony sycophantic big boys club.

The environmental lawyers 'Clientearth' are taking the UK government to court at this very moment for not doing enough to reduce emissions & get back on track with the net zero strategy. https://www.clientearth.org/latest/l...header-webview

I dare say they'll be on their list as Russia is signed up to the Paris accord & is now a full member, The last time I read they were suing the Polish & Greece governments last year over their use of coal fired power stations emissions, They even got the huge Drax power station that wanted to transition it into a mega gas plant stopped .
Since they won a long standing court battle last year any man & his dog not just NGO's can now sue corporations & governments for emissions failures, The floodgates have opened with all the big oil companies knee deep in lawsuits over environmental health.

The introduction of court cases for 'non-compliance' with these contestable National energy developments is alarming. So, what we innocently saw as voluntary climate agreements are legally enforceable by law? To whom ? No alleviating circumstances? None? Have we abdicated all responsibility for the sake of a wish list?

When countries signed up to the Paris accord emission standards they are legally binding, The UK's environmental bill became a 'Act' last November with the royal seal of approval & Clientearth have the law on their side. The lawsuits are happening across the board with investors now demanding the energy/oil companies to clean up their emissions or they will divest from them. https://www.theguardian.com/environm...s-climate-hope

Spot on!

This is a case of states who are party to the Paris Accord giving legally binding mutual commitments. As all parties are mutually committing, there is no abdication of responsibility, rather demonstrating a position of responsibility.

My energy bills are always £99 a week. Why can't I change supplier? https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/...ticle-masthead

Well, just heard price cap to go up by 56% and there could be more down the pipeline, that’s huge! France has put a cap of 4% rise. Even some measures by the UK government won’t protect the vulnerable. How have we go ourselves as a country in this situation? Food or heating? What a choice for some.

Price caps are a useful tool for large corporations to get rid of the small competition. Those with the deepest pockets can provide services and goods at a loss for the longest but at some point they must put up their prices to the market price. They then reap the rewards of being relative monopoly suppliers.
If the government keeps the price cap, even the big dogs stop business until they can see a way to make it worthwhile trading. Hence the eight hour queues for bread in communist governments' subsidised shops. Price caps always fail.
You print a boatload of currency, you get inflation, and prices go up every time.
Compound this with 'going green' and a painful transition is inevitable.
