I seem to recollect that 75% of the income from the Crown Estates goes directly to the Treasury, a valuable concession from a previous monarch who got into debt and was bailed out by the parliament of the day. (One of the more sensible fiscal decisions, as opposed to GB selling a major chunk of our gold reserves for $275/ounce.)

No forelock tugged here for any of them.
Personally I would stop any taxpayer money going to them and at the same time make sure they pay all relevant taxes ( if they are not doing so already).

Isn’t ‘tugging the forelock’ just a tad outdated? Not to say inappropriate? Couldn’t we say a military salute performs the same function?

Or is it deliberately used as a scornful put-down, a verbal insult or a mocking mark of derision for either the act or the objective? And then having no personal contact or experience of meeting the intended individual?

Recognition of the status should surely be the aim, rather than the holder of the office. In all walks of life there are heroes and anti-heroes, champions and villains - and everything in between.

Whatever happened to respect for each other? Sometimes we take too much notice of the alleged freedom of speech we all value so much. Moderation, if that word is permitted on here, seems a reasonable alternative. Nothing personal intended!
