Once again, indulgence in excessive spin to turn real news into fake news. The actual news is as follows: 'The firm's boss admitted to MPs in a committee appearance last week that it knew it was breaking UK employment law by sacking almost 800 staff on March 17, without warning them or their unions.' 'A plan by P&O Ferries’ to replace 800 seafarers with agency workers paid below the UK’s minimum wage will be blocked by new legislation, the transport secretary has said.' 'On March 23, Prime Minister Johnson told Parliament: "We're going to make sure that everybody working in the UK exclusive economic zone gets paid the living wage and we'll do it as fast as we possibly can.' https://www.itv.com/news/2022-03-28/...m-wage-workers The planned change in law is to apply to non-UK agency workers who are seafarers and who do not have UK employment law protection at the moment. This is to stop people employed and working out of the UK and protected by UK employment laws - like the sacked 800 - from being replaced with non-UK agency workers paid below the minimum wage. I'm sure the facts will not stop the few ardent supporters from issuing further 'likes' of support, but the right minded people will be able to understand.

If you cannot see, or refuse to accept, the difference between what happened initially and the latest development of the need for legislation to 'plug the gaping hole' (the minister's words verbatim in parliament) in the existing law old chap then I respectfully withdraw from a moot argument.

Being reported today that P&O have been trying to get the newly employed agency workers to sign new contracts on even lower wages! RMT reported P&O to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency ensuring the workers retain their original wages. P&O has yet to comment.
