For what it's worth I don't endorse this test because it forces the compressor to run when there may be little or no refrigerant gas in the system, and since the lubricating oil is circulated with the gas this poses a risk of damaging the compressor.

I personally value Jules giving his input into any problem as he is a hands on worker who knows the cars and works on air con systems and i would be more than happy to use his method and have done many times, there is nothing to lose as at the moment it not working

Default Update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had my local aircon lad round this morning to test the system and............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .....................Empty
There is a tiny leak where the pipes enter the condensor, the only part I did
So, new O rings ordered from DMGRS and do it all again, properly

I also would not recommend testing a compressor in this way, having suffered a seized compressor whilst doing so on our Twintop a few years ago. It would of course depend on how long the system has been non-operational etc.

The original problem was a leaking seal. I was fortunate to receive a 37% off special offer from AutoDoc at just the right time and managed to buy an OEM compressor plus condenser and seals for about £350 then had it all fitted by a trusted local garage with leak sniffer tool etc.

Thank you for the order!
Exactly where our latest 75 leaks from - and the suspiciously new condenser speaks a thousand words (as they say).

Really must get around to sorting that...!

This bridging only energises the clutch. If it fails to do so, it doesn't mean the compressor is mechanically faulty. It means that you either have a poor electrical connection somewhere in the circuit (likely) or, rarely, that the clutch has burnt out (very rare).

It means that for this test I've to press the demist or auto button to activate the compressor?

Hello Pedro,

The reply I gave to Suzublu (which you've quoted) was for his petrol engined car but you have a diesel which is different.

With motor on do I have to press the demist or auto button also? I've tested just with motor on and compressor didn't run...
This is the question which you posted on Jules' historic thread. Yes, you will need to activate the air conditioning by pressing the windscreen demist button. As I warned earlier, if you have no refrigerant gas in your system, you will be risking damage to your compressor using this test by forcing it to run.
