Default My favourite V12

Just back from a trip behind my favourite V12, Merlin of course, flying the only 2 seater Hurricane.

Lots of hands on flying + a full repetoire of aerobatics by my up front professional pilot. Good day of weather at West London Areo Club and once above the clouds glorious sunshine.

And mine..

I have built and flown model aircraft for over 45 years, A lot of WW1 and 2 aircraft.. But never built a Spitfire,,But have built several Hurricanes as I think it is by far a nicer aircraft.. During the Battle of Britain the Hurricane shot down more enemy aircraft than the Spitfire

The closest I ever got to a WW2 aircraft was a nine hour patrol flight in a Shackleton out of Lossiemouth while on the Air Cadets summer camp at Kinloss. Add to that an eleven hour patrol flight in a Nimrod, best summer camp I was ever on.

The Spitfire was nice to fly as well, but forward vision in the 2 seater Hurricane is good.

Is this Hurricane open to anyone or was it a special "One Off"?

I’d rather be behind (or more alongside) two Merlins - Mosquito, but only one flying and that’s in Canada.

Even if I managed to squeeze myself into a Mosquito I'd probably need the services of a chiropractor to get out again.
