MG-rover parts
Hi all as some of you know my car is due for a service so i have been shopping around to get parts as cheap as possible. Ebay was the best price i could find so i ordered air filter, oil filter, spark plugs and an anti roll bar link from there. The air filter and oil filter turned up today and they are proper MG rover parts was amazed i presume this is a good thing.

It is amazing how these original parts from MGR are still there and how they turn up. I have read there are also copies to watch out for and very cleverly copied they are.
I was recently looking for a part on the forum, the bay, rimmers and similar places and had no luck until yesterday when I called into a garage and they has just received a new 75 in for scrap and untouched. I had first choice and am going there to pick up the part this afternoon. It is a bit of a drive. Any excuse to take the V6 out suits me. Win, win. |

It's virtually impossible to detect fake goods unless the genuine manufacturer sets out the way to do so. Kingston for example run a fake detection scheme for their memory devices. Whether the Chinese would go to all the trouble of faking MGR parts and packaging for a virtually dead market I don't know. BMW I can understand, but they aren't going to make much from 75/ZTs. However, I'd guess that at least half the desirable, big name tech on eBay is fake, so maybe the counterfeiting industry in China is so big and sophisticated, they'd fake anything, no matter how small the return. Take a look around the Alibaba site to see it all.

I've just bought 2 service kits from Ebay. All genuine MGR stuff for £19.99 each.
Mind you, I did know the seller was an ex-MGR dealer. Grab it while you can, it won't last forever.

Most of this stuff, service kit, etc is still being manufacturered (for) xpart.
Thats the current branding on new boxes, so will be with us for some time. Shame the www.mg-rover.com address is now owned by .org though... xpart missed a trick there. |

Old thread I know, but better than starting a new one on the same subject.
I just received my service kit , genuine MGR from an Ex Rover dealership... and I have noticed on the box , it says Made In Poland. Now usually I dont bother with genuine parts, after all I know from experience most are Made in same country or factory as unbranded parts. I only opted this time for geniune as this car, unlike my 45 has full history and all MGR... so wanted genuine parts to keep car unmolested as such. Im thinking though, in future I will just opt for the cheapest.... they look no different to the genuine items and my 45 is running fine on ebay cheapy parts... they come from the same country of origin !! and feel and look the same. Obviously brake pads/discs are a different matter......
