OK then check for 12v at compressor with engine running if ok check earth continuity if all ok compressor goosed, just another thought is the small belt still on to drive it

Or run 12v feed directly to supply wire and try that

Belts are all fine, I can't get my hand down to the compressor wire if it's the small plug thing on the top? Remember Dave, you're dealing with a numpty here
Oh, and when I bridge the two wires on the trinary, ie the furthest apart, the high speed fan comes on, but the compressor clutch does not move, whereas before it clicked in and out.

I think you're bridging the wrong connections Ron. Please see my post no. 7 where I explain that the colour codes of two of the wires can easily be confused. You want grey with yellow tracer and black which are the two closest together!

This bridging only energises the clutch. If it fails to do so, it doesn't mean the compressor is mechanically faulty. It means that you either have a poor electrical connection somewhere in the circuit (likely) or, rarely, that the clutch has burnt out (very rare).

Thanks Simon, yeah, tried those as well, nothing. I'll have a closer look later.
Thanks both for your help

Quite right, Ronnie.

Driving around with the windows down really helps you experience the countryside, specially during slurry/manure spreading season.

Conditioned/filtered air just doesn't provide the same experienceof nature!

OK thanks for the rapid feedback Ron.

There's a single red wire which supplies battery voltage (via the relay) to your compressor clutch. It passes through a single connector which on the KV6 is behind the RH headlamp and accessible through the bulb changing hatch. It may be in the same place on your 1.8. Check that connector for cleanliness.

Or, if you fancy a long drive on a summer's day, taking in nature's aromas as celebrated by MSS, bring the car down to me.

I've experienced that odour many times over the years reading some of the threads posted 😁
