Default Rover 75 reverse light issue, not switch, fuse or bulb!

Hi,

I just picked up my first 75 a few days ago, and so far I'm impressed.

One issue is the reverse lights. They don't work, along with the parking sensor.

Now, I guessed at the switch, replaced it, didn't fix it. Checked the bulbs, they are fine. Checked the fuse in passenger 41, all good. Checked the relay r4, it has four terminals and two light up, don't know if the others should...

Other than that, what else could be wrong? Do the sensors and lights share the wires heading the rear of the car off the reverse switch?

Thanks for any help!

Remove the plug from the switch and short the 2 wires together. Pop the ignition on and check the lights work. Once you sort the lights out the sensors should work.

Make sure the switch is fully screwed home.

Hi Greeners,

Only just noticed you'd replied, but following your advice, I used a paperclip to bridge the connection, and the lights/sensor worked, so knew the switch wasn't in far enough.

Not having the correct tools, I just keeping playing with it until it eventually worked!

Nice simple fix, thanks for the shorting idea otherwise I'd probably have given up!

I have the same problem. I've got the gearbox out right now to replace the slave cylinder so it's an ideal chance to check the switch and narrow things down. Nine times out of ten it always seems to be the switch.

It's on the gearbox, roughly halfway up the main body and on the nearside. It's accessible by removing the nearside front wheel, possibly the undervalance and it should present itself. Don't mix it up with the other sensor which is for the flywheel/crank. Remove the wire and try the a paperclip test. There's a thread on now explaining that in more detail.

Jonathan I've removed your mobile number as per the clubs faq14.3, members can contact you by pm or via the email link to request your number.

A good starting point is the link in Greeners signature

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ghlight=switch

And the location is just above the nearside driveshaft - picture of a manual car.

Hi Many thanks sir, you are a godsend, I just checked the car, Turned the wheel full to the riight shone my bright torch up there and to my surprise that whole connector was off and swinging around in the breeze, Reconnected it.
Put a new bulb in at the back one was missing.
Now it works great so thank you.
Final issue though is the left hand holder assembly for all the bulbs seems very tricky to clip back in, So it's not fully clicked into place.
Is there a knack for getting it back in please?
Also my front left indicator is white not orange, I tried to remove the bulb but it wont come out.
Is there a way to get it out easily?.
I got the bulb holder out and hanging free of the car but the bulb flat refused to come out.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Again many thanks for the reversing thing.
I had visions of a costly job there .

Old thread but i tried to replace mine at the weekend. My switch is as per the picture but the one on the car is different with spade connectors and no proper end to the wire. I guess its been botched at some point. What can be done please?
