The best I did was to buy a Series 3 XJ6 with the plate MRP 5V which I changed to read MR PSV, I had trucks at the time and was introduced to a local bus operator who wanted the plate for his car, £2,500 later I had another set of plates on my Jag which I then sold for £1,900, I originally only paid £1,200 for the Jag because it had low oil pressure but that turned out to be a faulty gauge in the end. Winner winner.
Would I buy one now? No, I doubt it unless I could grab a bargain as above. |

£380 for mine back in 2002. I'd never part with it. Where I live, people whom I have never met, know me by my plate and wave. It's a friendly thing to me, not an ego trip. The whole plate has special meaning.

I bought R1 SWJ many years ago when I had a 216 convertible, it was then transferred to a Saab and finally onto my 75.
My 45 was sulking so I got R12 SWJ for that. Would I buy more probably not, but whilst visiting my mother I noticed one of her neighbours has 4 SWJ on their Volvo ..... grrrrrr.... |

Having a personalised plate never crossed my mind until I bought a Rover 75, which goes to show how much they get under your skin. I now have R40 WDG (R40 for the platform designation and WDG as a contraction of Wedgie) - cost me £250.

I bought a simple work related and my initial based plate many years ago for £80.
Still happy with it. It’s on the ZTT. It was inexpensive because the first two digits - a letter and number means nothing to all but a few of us - and the last three letters are my initials which do not spell or indicate anything. |

I bought a motorcycle years ago with a KIA (Northern Ireland) number on it. As I drove a Kia, it made sense to pop it on the car. What a pain it was. Buy new plates, rearrange insurance for both vehicles, rearrange tax for both vehicles, waiting for documents etc. Then I bought another Kia and had to repeat the process every time I changed. Never again! ............ and at £80 to DVLA, £40 for plates, £25 admin fee for insurance???
