Handbrake cable question.
hi, I am in the process of fitting new backplates to Mo. The outer cable was stuck solid inside the tube on the back of the old backplate, and it my attempts to get it out the tube broke off.
I used a hacksaw to cut it off the outer cable, but in the process of all this messsing about it appears I have got the inner cable stuck fast inside the outer cable. Is the outer cable just used to prevent the handbrake cable from chaffing on sharp edges? If so, and bearing in mind I'm going to have to put a new one on this summer, would it be alright to cut the end of the outer cable off to free the inner cable? The outer cable would not be held inside the tube of the new backplate, but will the handbrake still work as it shouild? Thank you.

There should be enough slack in the cable to lose about 5mm of the outer sheath and get away with it.
