Ecu and remap question
Hi all, could anyone tell me if the ecu on my car (05 cdti zt) has to be removed for a remap to be performed and I'm not talking about the club 160 remap, this is a outside source.
Thank you. |

It surley all depends on the equipment the person/company is using.
Is it a chip or a software one? |

I think over the years the chip sort of one has died of death.
Most are software, some via diagnostic socket and some via the pins/printed board of the ecu so would require removal of the ecu. If yoi find out you will have your answer. |

I wouldn't bother with anything other than the 160 - I got a horrific map loaded onto my old 75. I went back and they re-wrote it for me, however it took a lot of persuasion!

Aye, I would always go with the specialist for whichever marque. The T4 guys map is proven & well tested throughout the members.

Put a standard exhaust on your car Mark and save yourself the bother
Yes, the ECM can be rewritten through the J1962 port, but as you well know any underlying problem with your car and no matter what files are loaded into the ECM this isn't going to make it better. Best of luck though Brian |

Hi mark, I've literally just installed the ECM, 20 mins ago, after sending it over to Brian for a 160 map. It's a well worthwhile exercise. If you're after a remap, I would ask myself "who knows more about these cars?". Removal of the ECM is straightforward enough, for a remap via post, if you can't get to one of the T4 gurus offering the 160 remap service (not easy for me living in N Ireland). All depends if you can live without your car for a couple of days. Best of luck whichever route you decide to go. I may be able to post a "how to" for ECM removal later, if that is of any help, if not already done before. I couldn't find one, and was a bit anxious about doing this, but turns out its fairly easy. Sean.
