your mg is the 2.5 I believe. mine is the weedy 1.8 so probably doesn't need such beefy bolts. However mines also 2004 and therefor made under mg rover and subject to all their cost cutting mods. I am glad they are at least 17mm and not 4ba which would have really saved a few bob.

Hi Stewart, this is really strange, every 75 / ZT I have worked on has 17mm as standard

I've had 3 2.5 V6 mk1s. I've always kept the torque wrench in the boot with a dedicated socket fitted. I've just been out to check it for the 2nd time - definitely a 19mm. Only difference is that years ago I replaced the locking bolts with normal ones (1 per wheel). Strange!

Both of mine have 17mm wheel bolt heads, so probably not an engine size thing.

I replaced mine a few years ago with a set I bought on eBay.
17s came off, 19s went on. Someone may have changed them in the past. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

their off
thanks to a new impact socket(17mm) whole can of plus gas, extra long socket wrench, a blow torch, and lots of brute force the offending wheel bolts are out without snapping or rounding off. I think a gorilla must have tightened them.
God knows how long ago, and previous owner, (S) and tyre fitters have given up on them. all the wheel paint inside the rim has flaked off, the brake pads are almost down to metal and there must be 10 years of road dirt to clean off. So guess what this fella will be doing to pass the lockdown time. |
