What type of headlamps do you have? If they're the earlier non-projector type, then an H1 bulb of any wattage will fit the main beam bulb holder. If you have projector style lamps, the main beams use H9 bulbs.

Default Philips Pro150 H1 car bulb 2001 2.5 KV6 conn "Amazon said wont fit"

Hi Folks
Sorry I should have made it clear that my car has the non projector lamps. The hand book says head light bulbs are H1 & H7.I ordered the H7 without any problems but Amazon Vehicle checker has rejected the H1 bulb as being not suitable for my car.

Kind Regards Dan Gardner

Hi Dan,

I have found the eBay vehicle checker to be so unreliable as to be completely useless and it appears that the Amazon version is similar. If your handbook says that H1 will fit then proceed according to that. Better still, visit a local motor factor* with the following advantages:
  • Surprisingly competitive prices.
  • Instant check using the bulb manufacturer's catalogue.
  • No postage (if applicable in this case) or delivery time.
  • Easy return if there's a problem.
  • Keeps people employed and local infrastructure alive.

I recently bought number plate lamps this way for a friend's BMW Mini (80p each) and a side lamp bulb for my 75 (35p).

Simon

* Try D&A Factors or one of the other two in Perth.

I should point out that I do live in Perth but Perth,in Western Australia, having said that I was born in Middlesex and left when I was 20.In the days before the internet 1000% mark up was the norm here,Postage from the UK is a killer but its still cheaper that buying local.
Local trade price for a VDO fuel pump $1045, from UK delivered to my door $230.So never complain about UK parts prices you dont know how lucky you are.Best Wishes Dan

So all my research was in vain.

Perhaps a little addition to the "location" field in your visible profile would be helpful?
