Default Bluetooth for Hi-Line

Hi All,

I have been lurking for a while, but I now have a question...

With the new legislation in force, I want to install a bluetooth kit for my mobile phone, but I'd really like this to be integrated with the exisiting hi-line system.

What are my options? Do I need to upgrade the whole system ala BMW route, or is it easier than that?

AndyJ,

I've just spent the last 2 days working on my car to do exactly that.
I've bought a Parrot 3200 LS Colour Screen blue tooth unit, and like you, wanted it to integrate into the car.

Well I'm almost there now, Unfortunately I discovered, the Hi-line system has as I'm sure you Know, all the gubbings in the spare wheel recess, and so to get a feed from the Radio tuner for speaker connection, 12v constant & 12v ignition, as well as radio Pause/mute up to the front of the car, means either buying a long extension harness, or like me splicing the existing Parrot harness and extending it yourself.

80 crimp clips later, my loom is ready to go in to the car - thats tomorrow's task. But I've tested it and it all works, when a call comes through, it pauses the CD or Tape player, and provides the call audio to all speakers.

I'm going to mount the microphone it comes with in the purpose built compartment within the drivers reading lamp cluster, then the jobs done.
I've also found that an additional BMW 17 pin to ISO Conversion loom was needed for £16.00.

Once Ive completed the installation, I'll post a complete How-To with pictures.

Thanks for the welcome and advice.

I'm looking forward to seeing your pics and howto Reebs!

I've recently uncovered the whole hi-line system in the tyre well, as my nearside light cluster in letting in rain by the bucket load. I found out when the alarm set itself off with the wipers going mental too!

Have since repaired the water damaged parts of hi-line, but since they are currently out in the open it would seem rude not to make use of it.

Just means I'm having to drive my ZR around for a week or so

Where does the spare wheel go then Andy? (Assume you're talking about the saloon).

Excellent How-to Reebs, I'm seriously considering it... still wonder if Bluetooth can't be done as part of the existing hi-line components ala BMW style.

Simon, the spare wheel recess does indeed hold the spare wheel, but continues it's indent to the rear wall (by the bumper) and that's where the video module and radio tuner are mounted.

Well I never knew that!

I've only been in there twice - once when I bought the car and again when I changed the Spacesaver for a real wheel. I'll have to have another snoop.

EXCELLENT How-to M8!!!!

Have you had any issues since fittment at all?
I still have a wind-up phone, but will be dragged kicking and screaming to Bluetooth with the next one so the parrot was on my list
I wanted to be sure you didn't have any interference issues first though ?
with the power cables being bundled together with the speaker lines for that 5m length?
I'd be suicidal if I went to all that trouble, then had alternator whine

Great pics all the same

Cheers, Nick
