If you still have a working key/fob, you can either go to an ex-Rover-dealer and pay a small fortune, or one of the specialists here, for somewhat less. I had one done for me by Terry of TS Autos in Stourbridge a couple of weeks ago – can give you details if you like.

Because of the ridiculously elaborate way they’re coded, the whole car needs to be present, unfortunately. Worth visiting somebody like Terry to get a T4 diagnostic session done wile you’re at it, just for peace of mind

I don’t know of any way you can get this done without taking your car to one of our experts (or an ex-Rover dealer, which will cost you about twice as much – but maybe compensated for by saving fuel etc, if you can find one close to you.

It’s a bit of a process – when I got mine done recently, Terry had to take the immobiliser out (which involves removal of interior trim etc), read codes off it with a computer and interface, then code the car and the new key using his T4. As far as I was able to keep up…

I see no way any company could do this remotely.

The nearest ex-dealer to you that I know is AE Wilcox in Wickwar – only about 35 miles from Wells. Phone first and check they still do it, and how much they’ll charge.

Feel free to PM me if I can help…

I reckon your best option may be cb750chris in Portsmouth. He can program a transponder chip and code a new remote PCB to the car.

Default Re: Key replacement

Hi there,

There is a sticky posted by Marinabrian in the "Members own spares for sale" ( at the top ) relating to key replacement.

The other members have provided much of the information already.

The cost if you go to BMW ( they do have the records ) is in the order of £ 230 . I choose the club route !

Regards

CLINTE

^^^^^^^^

What he said.

Didn't know Beemer had the records though.

Personally I'd be wary of going through official X Part channels for a key, I've heard instances of them not working when they finally arrive. Least getting one from a trader you know it works as its tried there and then.
