Hi Dawn,

From memory about £40 ish for the part , then any postage and fitting

Not a nice experience when that happens - glad you are all right.

The guy is asking for help/advice and he is getting 'bashing, and orange clips' a little more detail may help, asking a few more questions may help, If you can't be bothered to give a useful answer best not to say anything than have the guy running around wasting time and doing more harm. He may well be correct, and there's a simple check you can do yourself.
Try starting the engine and watch the rev counter needle. If it gives a small kicks or jitters when the engine's being cranked, the sensor is OK and the problem lies elsewhere. If the needle remains stationary, the sensor is faulty.

They've towed it in. I didn't read this until after about the test. His diagnostic gizmo read a code no signal from crank sensor - siemens and a string of numbers. Hope that's right! I am waiting for the garage to call. If they use euro for parts, they charge £86 for the sensor!!

"Bashing" over the pump has started several not so "failed" pumps to get folks home in my experience but what would I know? I only worked on recovery for twenty years or so! Perhaps I shouldn't be "bothered" in future.

Tell the garage to check fuse 1 in the underbonnet fuse box Dawn

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the HO2 wiring has shorted out causing this fuse to blow, and it shares the supply with the CKP sensor.

So no letting the garage buy expensive sensors that may not be needed yet

Hi Brian

The garage was closed by the time I saw this, but I have e-mailed them with the details! I start work before them, and am not allowed a phone on due to sensitive electronics, so hopefully they will see it first thing!

Thank you very much for your input everyone. I know most of the diesel foibles now, but with only having this V6 a short while I have much to learn! Hopefully the Nano crew might be able to check if I have the clip in place later for me, so I don't get stung by that as well!

It's a bit upsetting having this happen less than a week into ownership, but I am so in love with this car, I am sure I will get over it. The previous owner has spent a lot on it, but not at "Rover" experienced places, and I think that doesn't help. These cars need that extra bit of knowledge to make sure they are maintained properly. At least now it will get that TLC.

Cheers again

Dawn

My crank position sensor gave up the ghost, apparently it is a known week point was not a greatest feeling being stranded . At least when it is replaced you will have a brand new one with plenty of life in it.

Yes, it was a bit of a let down, only the second time out in the car! But I was having a lot of fun with it until it died. Could the seller have known about this being on it's way out, or is it just terrible luck on my part?

The 'Guy' is Dawn. I think that is a woman's name? How are you getting on with the replacement crank sensor Dawn?
